Rama has harshly attacked the judges' associations, accusing them of arrogance in power and unjustified demands for salary increases. The head of government said that they are not legally in order and have no right to make political statements. According to him, the government remains the guarantor of the independence of the judiciary.

Rama attacks judges again: Arrogant, behave like a political party and do not
Edi Rama

Prime Minister Edi Rama started today with attacks on judges, saying that thanks to the socialist government, their lives have changed for the better.

"No one here is violating your position. On the contrary, this government is the guarantee of your independence. And you know very well that you have lived here, where you have been and you see for yourself the great change that has also occurred in your family life. And for this respect for all your families. And in your professional life, because you are totally independent. Are you impartial, you should look at this in yourself and ask for it every day when you enter the courtroom", said Rama.

Rama described the reaction of the Association of Judges as unacceptable and unprecedented in the history of Europe. The head of government said he was "absolutely surprised" by what he called an attempt to impose decisions on the Parliament and the government through the judiciary.

"You can't say the ball is mine, I will shoot the ball myself and the goal must be empty. Register as a party and present your platform if you want. You gentlemen are asking for 37 million euros from the state budget. This is the truth and that's how the ball is played. Albanians should know what we are with you in the Constitutional Court for. You are asking that the salary for the Appeals Judge, from 3480 euros, go to over 5000 euros," said Rama.

According to Rama, judges are currently paid at levels comparable to countries in the region, including Greece, and the request for an increase of 2-3 thousand euros per month has no legal or constitutional basis. He added that judges should express themselves through decisions in the courtroom and not in public, emphasizing that the matter is already in the Constitutional Court.

Among other things, the Prime Minister expressed "respect for SPAK", given that there has been no similar request or such complaints about salary from the prosecutors of the Special Prosecution Office against Corruption and Organized Crime.

The head of government expressed his frustration with the request, complaint, and reasoning of the judges' associations.

Regarding the point where there is talk of a fictitious reduction in judges' salaries by the Council of Ministers, Rama asked the associations to submit documents about this and to speak with evidence, given that they are not a political party to make such public statements, which he considers untrue.

"You are not a political party, to give such opinions in public, you are a judge. How can you throw mud at the government of this republic with this kind of rhetoric?! And moreover you talk about fictitious deductions of the reference salary made by the Council of Ministers.

"And you say that we have worsened your financial position. These are lies, produce a document of financial deterioration because you are not a political party to make public statements, make them when you really have comments when your position is being violated,"  said Rama, adding that his government has shown itself to be a guarantor of their independence.

Rama accuses two judges' associations of unpaid debts

Rama raised a serious accusation against the two judges' associations that have filed a request with the Constitutional Court to "repeal as incompatible with the Constitution the amendment made to the law on the status of judges and prosecutors", which would pave the way for an increase in their salaries. He said that the two associations are not in order before the law, as one is suspended by the National Business Center, for non-payment of dues, while the other is not registered at all.

"This association was established to earn you money, it goes to the Constitutional Court to earn money, to increase your income and the union associations, it is suspended by the Central Bank because you have not paid tax obligations and social contributions, you as an association that I suspect has a wide membership, while the other association was not registered at all. The law has these obligations. It should have been deregistered because that is what the law says and the Constitutional Court did not take these facts into account, you as an association should not have been taken as a reference at all because you are not in order before the law.

"I think you are arrogant. You have the arrogance of a power that you treat as unlimited power, as uncontrolled power, and for this reason other things happen in this country, but I am not here for that today. I am a party and I speak on behalf of a party, you are not a party and cannot be treated as a party," the head of government declared.

The Prime Minister further emphasized that SPAK has not joined this request, separating it from the rest.

"I would like to point out that SPAK has not joined this absurd request to increase the salary to 9,800 euros ," he added.
