Oil taxes in Albania are double the region's.
The Transparency Board approved this Wednesday, April 8, the new fuel prices.
The achievement of a 2-week ceasefire between the US and Iran appears to have reduced the price of oil in Albania as well, but only by 4 lek.
From 224 lekë previously, starting today, diesel will be sold for 220 lekë. Meanwhile, gasoline has remained unchanged.
The prices set by the Board will come into effect today, the 8th, at 3:30 p.m. and will be valid until the next board meeting where the changes in sales prices will be reflected.

We draw the attention of every operator of wholesale and retail sales of petroleum by-products to the obligation to implement this decision. In case of violations found by various operators, the suspension of activity will be decided. The Ministry of Economy and Innovation, together with the Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of Infrastructure and Energy, are committed to protecting the interests of Albanian consumers and preserving the principles of fair competition in the market," the Board announces.
The Hydrocarbons Transparency Board was reactivated for the second time, after it was initially established during the Ukraine crisis in 2022. The first decision the Board made was on March 27, reducing oil prices from 214 to 203 lek per liter.
But this reduction did not last even 24 hours. After operators complained that these prices were below cost and they would suspend the supply of diesel, the Board met again the day before and on March 28 increased the price to 218 lek per liter, which has been in effect until today.
In Albania, the element that adds the most to the fiscal burden is the circulation tax of 27 lek per liter. The excise tax is fixed, 39.4 lek per liter and 3 lek is the carbon tax. On top of these, VAT is calculated, which is 20% on the final price (including other taxes), unlike the region that does not charge VAT on top of other taxes. Taxes on oil in Albania are double that of the region.
