The Special Court has left former President Ilir Meta in prison, rejecting his request for a substitute measure.
The former head of state requested release from prison on a financial guarantee, but this request was also ignored.
Prosecutor Sotir Kllapi also rejected the claim of Meta's lawyer that the Supreme Court's unifying decision on the security measure legitimized the release of the Freedom Party leader.
The prosecutor noted that the social danger is evident and there are no circumstances to mitigate the security measure. The trial session on the merits against Meta and the other defendants in the case is also expected to be held today.
The former president asked the Special Court to replace the "prison arrest" measure, in which he has been serving since October 2024, with that of "financial guarantee", "obligation to appear", or "ban on leaving the country".
On May 4, the Special Court of Appeals rejected the next request for freedom of the former President of the Republic, Ilir Meta, while previously, all of his requests for mitigation of the measure, at all three levels of trial, were rejected.
In the courtroom in support of Meta were also several figures from the Freedom Party and the opposition, among them Tedi Blushi, Flamur Noka, Klevis Balliu and Bujar Leskaj, who closely followed the developments of the session.

Today, the court is expected to decide whether to accept the request for a summary trial for the other three defendants, who are Monika Kryemadhi's mother, Ema Çoku, her friend, accused of money laundering, and the former head of AKEP, Pirro Xhixho, accused of corruption.
