United States President Donald Trump has made a strong statement against basketball star LeBron James, calling him a "racist" during a press conference at the White House.
Trump was asked if LeBron James is considered the greatest player in NBA history, but the US president chose to endorse Michael Jordan as the greatest basketball player of all time. He noted that he has a friendly relationship with Jordan and that they play golf together.
" Michael Jordan is a friend of mine. I play golf with him. He's a really good guy. I think LeBron is racist, I don't like him. I don't know. I only like people who like me, so I would choose Michael Jordan in the end ," Trump declared.
The US president's statement came just hours after LeBron James announced that he would continue his NBA career with the Philadelphia 76ers, with the goal of winning a fifth championship in his career.
James has yet to respond to Trump's comments, but the two have a long history of feuding. The American basketball player has been an outspoken critic of the president and has publicly supported Democratic candidates Hillary Clinton, Joe Biden and Kamala Harris in the presidential races against him.
In 2017, LeBron James called Trump "a tramp" during a debate over the president's decision not to invite several NBA champion teams to the White House.
Despite his off-court controversies, LeBron James remains one of the greatest players in basketball history. He has won four NBA championships with the Miami Heat, Cleveland Cavaliers and Los Angeles Lakers, has been named the MVP of the season four times and holds the all-time record for most points scored and most games played in the league.
On the other hand, Michael Jordan, described by Trump as the greatest of all time, won six championship titles with the Chicago Bulls and was named NBA MVP five times during his legendary career.
