Belgium is the next national team to qualify for the round of 16 of the 2026 World Cup. Rudi Garcia's team won 3-2 on aggregate against Senegal in the match that started on Wednesday evening Albanian time and ended on Thursday morning. Drama, goals, emotions and 132 minutes of 'crazy' play.
The first half ended 0-1 for Senegal after the Africans took the lead with a goal from Habib Diarra after 25 minutes of play. The start of the second half also saw Senegal's second goal with Ismaila Sarr.
When it seemed like victory would smile on the Africans, Belgium responded twice in the final moments of regulation. First it was Romelu Lukaku (substitute) who reduced the deficit in the 86th minute, before captain Youri Tielemans equalized to make it 2-2 and send the teams into extra time.
The match continued with chances for both teams, but the decisive moment came in the 122nd minute. When the triple whistle was expected and the teams were sent to the penalty area, Belgium won a penalty which was confirmed by VAR for a stoppage-time interference inside the area.
Diaw was met by Youri Tielemans who scored Belgium's third goal and his second of the match. The minutes that followed were full of emotions, but Senegal missed a very good chance at the end, with the victory smiling on Belgium with a 3-2 upset after 132 minutes of play.
