Gianni De Biazi has given an interview to " Gazzetta dello Sport ", where he spoke about his experience as Albania coach. He also revealed that he was close to taking over the management of Italy, but it didn't happen and he feels very regretful.
" We qualified for the 2016 European Championship, with a victory in Portugal ," De Biazi recalled.
The coach then recounted the moment when he was on the verge of taking charge of Italy in 2016:
"Michele Uva, then general director of the Italian Football Federation, called me. Coach Conte had announced that, after the European Championship, he would be going to Chelsea, and I was in a good position to replace him.
"It is true that the president of the Albanian Football Federation, Armando Duka, told me that I could not leave them, that if I went to France as a resigned coach, I would weaken Albania, but I think there was more, I don't know. I am left with a great regret, or more precisely, a terrible anger . "
" Did they follow Spalletti? No, and I was disappointed. Today I feel thirty times better; I have learned so much from the blows I have received. Experience gives you superior knowledge ," declared De Biasi.
