Despite England's World Cup semi-final exit to Argentina, Thomas Tuchel will remain as England manager. The German has confirmed he will see out his contract with the Three Lions, which expires after Euro 2028.

In a statement to Sky Sports UK, Tuchel said: " We will move forward. My contract is until Euro 2028. At the moment it is difficult to see that far ahead, but I am looking forward to it ."

However, before thinking about future tournaments, England must conclude their World Cup adventure with the third-place match against France. But on the island, many fans and former footballers had begun to call for the end of the Tuchel era, which had been criticized even before the tournament began.

The defeat to Argentina and Lionel Messi has reignited old debates in English football. Many have compared Tuchel's tactical approach to that of the Gareth Southgate era, accusing the German coach of playing too conservatively and lacking courage in crucial moments.

Former England defender Gary Neville was among the harshest critics:

" It looked like the European final against Italy. It's a question of mentality, confidence and the ability to manage possession. It's unbelievable how this story keeps repeating itself ."

Former England captain Wayne Rooney also criticized the German coach's tactical decisions:

" Tuhel's decisions cost us dearly. If you are a striker and you see defenders coming in when you are ahead, you lose confidence. He panicked and gave up the chance to double the lead. If you give Argentina the initiative near your own area, sooner or later you will be punished ."

Michael Owen was also in the same vein, comparing England to Spain:

" Look at Spain against France. When they were 1-0 up, they kept playing with courage. We, in the same situation, put three defenders in. What message does that send to the team? We deserved to lose, it could have ended 4-1 ."

Strong criticism also came from Gary Lineker, who did not spare comments on Tuchel's game plan:

" A shocking game plan and unimaginable management of Messi, who was left free to cross constantly. I wonder ironically if Tuchel is not some spy sent by Germany to sabotage us, given that they are not doing so well at the moment ."

Former England goalkeeper Joe Hart also stressed that the problems of the past seem to have returned:

" Everyone criticized Southgate for his management of key moments, but with Tuchel nothing has changed ."

While Jimmy Carragher summed up his disappointment with the words:

" England dominated Argentina for 72 minutes before self-destructing ."

Despite the wave of criticism, the English Football Association (FA) continues to give full support to Thomas Tuchel. FA Chief Executive Mark Bullingham, who extended the German coach's contract until EURO 2028, has no intention of changing the direction of the technical project.

Tuchel himself ruled out the possibility of resigning after the elimination, while support for him and the team has also come from the highest institutions of the country. Prince William said he was "devastated" by the elimination, but at the same time "proud" of the team's performance.

Even the outgoing British Prime Minister, Keir Starmer, praised the team's dedication, saying that the way the players represented England made everyone proud.

Despite the great disappointment, the English leaders seem to have decided to continue the journey with Tuchel, with the main objective: a triumphant appearance at "EURO 2028", a tournament that will take place in the home of the "Three Lions".
