Riots and chaos on the green field, as well as the unauthorized possession of weapons and fireworks on the premises, have landed the president of the famous football club behind bars.
Atromitos president Vasilis Betsis was arrested on Saturday afternoon by Greek police after fireworks and weapons were found in the Peristeri stadium area.
Specifically, as announced by the Sub-Directorate for the Fight against Organized Sports Violence, "a preliminary examination of the case was carried out, following an order from the competent Prosecutor" and following relevant complaints, according to which, in an area between gates -6- and -7- of the stadium, on "Kresnas Street", fans were transporting, storing and hiding fireworks and weapons, with the consent of the team president.
As it later turned out, the stadium in question was provided by the competent municipal authority for use by the aforementioned team, while searches conducted in a closed area of the stadium by police officers of the Special Investigations Department, with the assistance of the Intelligence and Special Operations Sub-Directorate and in the presence of a judicial officer, found a total of:
-17 fireworks
-a bullet launcher
-7 sticks
-3 helmets
-lots of pepper spray
-a bunch of masks
-clothing from other teams
According to information on Saturday morning, Atromitos president Vasilis Betsis appeared at the Peristeri Municipal Stadium, where he was arrested by the Police and will be sent to the Athens District Court Prosecutor's Office.
