Police officers tasked with protecting the Royal Family at Windsor Castle have been put under investigation after allegations they slept on duty and left their posts unattended.
The Metropolitan Police Service confirmed that the Directorate of Professional Standards (DPS) has launched an urgent investigation into several officers who had security responsibilities at the royal castle in Berkshire.
"The suspected conduct falls below the high standards expected of officers, particularly in frontline protective roles," the police said in a statement.
British authorities also announced that the Independent Office for Police Conduct has been informed of the case and has decided that the matter will be investigated locally by the Metropolitan Police .
The incident has raised serious concerns over the security protocols associated with protecting the British Royal Family , particularly at one of the most important royal residences in the country.
