Prime Minister Edi Rama has congratulated former socialist leader Fatos Nano on his birthday with a special message made public on social media.
Rama says that his birthday coincides with a very important day for the country, that of the opening of four more chapters of EU membership.
Rama writes that Albania's good and fast journey towards the EU is also thanks to the great merit of Nano, which, the prime minister writes, would have been very long without him.
"On this significant day of his birth, as after the opening of 4 more chapters of the accession negotiations, I am traveling to give a lecture at the legendary College of Europe in Bruges - the desire came naturally to me to publicly wish Fatos Nano, the historic leader of the Socialist Party, a happy birthday and a long life of 100 years."
Today, when Albania sees up close the peak it must climb after a long journey, I want to say that as part of this journey, Fatos has the great merit of turning our party into a force with eyes and a heart from Europe and if you think for a moment, that first phase of the history of the Socialist Party, in Albania immersed in the vortex of the democratic circle, without Fatos Nano at its head, the mind says that our path could have been much longer. Respect, hugs and joy, dear Chairman", Rama writes.
