A 49-year-old man, identified as Eduart Tola, has been arrested by the Dibra Police after he was caught attempting to cross the border with suspected forged documents. The arrest was made at the Bllate Border Crossing Point, while he was transporting materials that were suspected of being used to provide citizens with Bulgarian passports.

The investigation into this case was conducted for about a month by the Economic and Financial Crime Investigation Specialists at the Dibër Police Department, following information about an organized counterfeiting activity in the Ostren administrative unit, Bulqizë Municipality.

According to investigative data, civil status documents were prepared illegally to present citizens as residents of this area.

This scheme also includes the administrator of the Ostren administrative unit, Ndriçim Sula, for whom criminal proceedings have been initiated for abuse of office and falsification of documents.

The operation led to the arrest of Tola at the exit from Albanian territory, while documents for 21 different citizens, suspected of being forged, intended for use in Bulgaria, were found in his vehicle.

"The Economic and Financial Crime Investigation Specialists at the Dibër Local Police Directorate, based on information obtained that some citizens were falsifying civil status documents in order to provide various persons with certificates as if they were residents of the Ostren administrative unit and then sending these documents to Bulgaria, in order to provide them with Bulgarian passports, have launched proactive investigations, followed by special investigative methods, for about 1 month, to crack down on this group.

As a result of the investigations carried out, the structures of the Dibër Border Police Department, in cooperation with the Dibër Border Police Commissariat, under the direction of the Dibër Prosecutor's Office, successfully finalized the police operation codenamed "Identity", where, as a result, at the exit of the Bllate BCP, citizen ET, 49 years old, resident of Sofia, Bulgaria, was detained.

During the physical search carried out by the Border Police services, 21 suspected forged documents for 21 different citizens were found in the vehicle that this citizen was driving, with the aim of providing them with Bulgarian passports.

Also, the materials were referred to the Prosecutor's Office, where criminal proceedings were initiated against the following citizens:

NS, 53 years old, resident of the village of Ostren, with the position of administrator of the Ostren administrative unit, Bulqizë Municipality;

BM, 62 years old, resident of the village of Lejçan, former administrator of the Ostren administrative unit, Bulqiza Municipality.

These two citizens, while performing their duties, are suspected of having committed acts contrary to the law, by issuing and falsifying civil status documents for various persons, with the aim of obtaining Bulgarian passports.

Investigations are ongoing for the full legal documentation of this case, as well as for the identification and legal accountability of other persons implicated in this illegal activity.

"The procedural materials were passed to the Prosecutor's Office at the First Instance Court of General Jurisdiction in Dibër, for further action ," the police announced.
