The head of Israel's Mossad intelligence service, Roman Gofman, made a secret visit to Washington two weeks ago for consultations on the war against Iran, at a time when the conflict between the US and Tehran is entering a new phase of escalation. The news was published by the American portal Axios, citing two well-informed sources.
The visit was Goffman's first to the US capital since his appointment as head of Mossad. During his stay in Washington, he met with CIA Director John Ratcliffe and senior White House officials. According to Axios, the talks focused on developments in the war against Iran, the Iranian nuclear program and coordination of actions between the two allies.
The meetings came just before the resumption of US military operations against Iranian targets. In recent days, the administration of President Donald Trump has increased military pressure on Tehran, while Iran has warned that it will respond to any US attack. The clashes have raised fears of an expansion of the conflict in the Middle East and of consequences for the security of sea lanes in the Persian Gulf and the Strait of Hormuz.
Meanwhile, US Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth stated that the war against Iran has so far cost the United States about $37.5 billion, while the Pentagon has requested additional funds to continue military operations.
