What happened in Gaza after the peace deal? From Israel's ultimatum to

Clashes between local factions continue in the Strip. Donald Trump, returning from Egypt, spoke of the importance of rebuilding Gaza. Freed Palestinian prisoners denounce Israeli prisons: "A slaughterhouse"...

US President Donald Trump returned to Washington after the peace agreement signing ceremony in Sharm el-Sheikh. After more than two years of fighting, Hamas no longer has any Israeli hostages.

"I haven't decided yet on the two-state solution," the US President said, answering questions from reporters.

"We're talking about rebuilding Gaza. I'm not talking about a single state, a dual state or two states. We're talking about rebuilding Gaza. A lot of people value the one-state solution. Some value the two-state solution. We'll see," Trump said.

Despite Trump's vague responses, Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi, who co-chaired the summit, said the Gaza deal "closes a painful chapter in the history of humanity" and paves the way for a two-state solution.

Return of the troops

Israel has set the end of today as the deadline for Hamas to return the bodies of the slain hostages, after accusing the movement of violating its ceasefire commitments by not releasing all of them. Yesterday, the Palestinian group handed over four of the 28 bodies still in the Strip and said it was having difficulty finding the remaining bodies. This seriously jeopardizes the ceasefire, as Defense Minister Israel Katz warned of consequences.

Meanwhile, clashes continue in the Gaza Strip between members of Hamas and rival armed groups from Israel. According to media reports, 32 people have been killed. Three others were killed by IDF troops in Khan Younis, which the army said was in a restricted area.

Al Jazeera: 55 health workers among prisoners

Meanwhile, in the Strip, celebrations are underway for the return of Palestinian prisoners released by the Israelis in exchange for hostages taken on October 7. Among them, Al Jazeera reports, "55 are healthcare workers from Gaza," including 24 nurses, seven doctors and two paramedics. Healthcare Workers Watch said "they were abducted by Israeli occupation forces from the hospitals where they worked," accusing Israel of war crimes, including the systematic abduction of healthcare workers. Other released prisoners have described Israel's Ofer prison as a "slaughterhouse," citing ongoing abuse.

Sanchez: "Peace cannot mean oblivion and impunity."

Hamas will continue to threaten the region after a ceasefire in the Gaza war was signed. French President Emmanuel Macron raised the alarm: speaking to reporters before departing from the Egyptian resort town of Sharm el-Sheikh, he said there was still a risk of terrorist attacks and destabilization in Gaza by Hamas. “I am worried because we know how things work with terrorist groups,” he replied when asked by a reporter if he feared Hamas could fill the power vacuum in Gaza. “You cannot dismantle a terrorist group with thousands of fighters, tunnels and these types of weapons overnight,” he added, calling for strict international monitoring of the situation. Macron also thanked US President Donald Trump and Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sissi for inviting Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas to the Sharm el-Sheikh summit. He described the Palestinian Authority's participation as "the result of this day," saying it was essential to protect the interests of the West Bank and preserve the prospect of a two-state solution.

The optimism of the Emir of Qatar

Qatar, one of the mediators in the negotiations between Israel and the Palestinian Islamist movement Hamas, is “pleased with the positive results of the Sharm el-Sheikh Peace Summit,” during which the ceasefire agreement for the Gaza Strip was signed yesterday. The Emir of Qatar, Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, wrote on X, stressing: “We hope that this will be a starting point for further agreements in the future that fulfill the hopes of our brothers in the Gaza Strip and contribute to achieving a comprehensive, just and lasting solution to the Palestinian issue. We look forward to the commitment of all parties to the common understanding reached for the benefit of all.” / Adapted from Il Domani /
