The "Air Albania" flight from Tirana to Istanbul, scheduled to depart today (Wednesday) at 18:20, was canceled unexpectedly and without any official reason, according to the Albanian Football Federation, which has been severely affected and penalized after this incident.
Among the passengers who had booked tickets was the Albanian women's national football team, which was headed to Turkey to play two long-planned friendly matches on November 28 and December 1. This unexplained cancellation, according to the Albanian Football Association, has completely disrupted the representative team's program, as the players and technical staff were forced to turn back, after being left waiting without any notice and without any alternative solution from the airline.
Meanwhile, the Air Albania office at the airport was closed and the company's phone numbers were switched off, with citizens having no way to seek help or assistance. The situation created seriously jeopardizes the development of these matches, placing not only the National Team, but also the Turkish Football Federation, which hosted the Albanian team as planned, in a difficult position, sources close to the Albanian Football Federation told Top Channel.
The cancellation of the flight, without explanation and without offering managed alternatives as required by international air transport standards, raises serious concerns about the functioning and responsibility of the company “Air Albania” towards its passengers.
