Leo Messi has become one of the most talked about figures in the Barcelona presidential election campaign, even though he himself did not seek to be part of the process. From the beginning, the Argentine has been clear that he does not want to get involved in the race to lead the club, despite the efforts of some pre-candidates to link his name to their projects.
According to sources close to the player, quoted by the daily "MARCA", Messi has not held any conversations with any candidate and has no intention of doing so during the electoral process. The same attitude applies to both direct and indirect contacts, although he has not liked some developments.
One of the episodes that attracted attention was the placement of a banner on a building in Barcelona by Mark Ciria, which read: “Want to see you again.” Although the banner does not mention Messi by name and does not clearly show his face, the message was widely interpreted as a call for the Argentine to return to the club.
According to the same sources, the banner was placed without the player's knowledge.
Mark Ciria has also attempted to contact Messi, with one of the main pillars of his campaign being the return of the 8-time Ballon d'Or winner. However, Messi has refused to get involved.
A similar situation has also occurred with Víktor Font. Through Gabriel Masfurroll, the pre-candidate has attempted to connect with the player's inner circle, but without success. Font himself has stated that the aforementioned contacts took place a long time ago and never directly with Messi.
In this context, Joan Laporta's recent statements have also stood out, as he spoke about his relationship with Messi, the Argentine's departure from Barcelona and the possibility of a farewell ceremony. According to Laporta, the organization of such a ceremony is in the hands of the player himself.
So far, only Laporta's version of the matter has been made public, while it remains to be seen whether Messi will react or give a public statement in the future.
