Mario Mitaj could return to Italian football this summer, as Genoa have shown a concrete interest in the Albanian defender. The news was reported by transfer expert Gianluca Di Marcio , who revealed that the Serie A club has requested information about the 23-year-old, but has not yet started official negotiations.
The main obstacle remains Al Ittihad's financial demands. The Saudi club is not willing to give up Mitaj easily, having transferred him for around 5 million euros and aims to benefit from a higher amount from his sale. Although the player's value on "Transfermarkt" is estimated at around 6 million euros, the Arab leaders are looking for more to give the green light to the departure.
Last season was not the easiest for Mitaj. He faced difficulties due to restrictions related to the activation of foreign players in Saudi Arabia and was not always among the coach's priority choices. However, the Albanian defender managed to accumulate around 3000 minutes in four competitions, maintaining an important role in the team.
Genoa is evaluating the possibility of bringing the player closer in this transfer window, while the final decision is expected to depend on both negotiations between the clubs, as well as Mitaj's own desire to start a new adventure in Serie A.
The defender's contract with Al Ittihad is valid until the summer of 2028.
