The Administrative Court has rejected the request of the Mayor of Tirana, Erion Veliaj, regarding the issue of appointing Ols Dado as prosecutor.
Likewise, the court has not accepted the requests of the "National Association of Media and Justice" and former prosecutor Tom Dedaj to be included as a party in the process.
In the lawsuit filed by Mayor Erion Veliaj against SPAK prosecutor Ols Dado, former prosecutor Tom Dedaj has also filed a request to become part of the trial. The latter claims that he was removed from office to pave the way for Ols Dado's appointment to the justice system.
"It was known, but thankfully the people found out," the mayor is reported to have said after the decision was announced.
"Expected!" was the first reaction of lawyer Plarent Ndreca after the announcement of the decision.
In a statement to the media after the decision, Ndreca stressed that with this decision, the justice system has once again shown that it has no ability to self-correct. He also warned of sending the case to the Appeals Court immediately after the court issues the reasoned decision.
"Even in this case, the system did not show the ability to self-correct and examine the problems that the system itself has. There is no bigger problem than the appointment of a prosecutor who...This is a first step. This is already a truth that is not covered by any kind of procedural decision.
It is not only related to Veliaj, to the municipality of Tirana, but to the consequences that such a decision is causing to all the citizens of Tirana but also to the justice system itself. This decision is an indicator of the failure of the justice system itself to correct itself. Equality before the law also works for prosecutors and judges,” said Plarent Ndreca.
