Michael Schumacher, seven-time Formula 1 world champion, has signed a helmet that will be auctioned to raise funds in support of the fight against dementia. The charity initiative was launched by Scottish F1 legend Jackie Stewart, who has been dealing with the illness of his wife, Helen, who was diagnosed with dementia in 2014.
With the help of his wife, Corinna Schumacher, he placed his initials on the helmet, a significant gesture that has touched the world of motorsport. The special helmet has been signed by all living Formula 1 champions – 20 in total – and was unveiled to the public ahead of the Bahrain Grand Prix.
Sir Jack Stewart, founder of the charity Race Against Dementia since 2016, used this helmet during a demonstration lap with the 1973 Tyrrell, the car in which he won his third and final Formula 1 title.
" It's fantastic that Michael has signed the helmet for this cause, for a disease that still has no cure. His wife helped him make this happen ," Stewart declared, with great emotion.

Unfortunately, as German media reports, Schumacher is no longer able to speak. The German F1 legend suffered a serious head injury during a skiing accident in December 2013 in the French Alps. Since then, he has stayed out of the public eye and continues to receive ongoing medical treatment at his family villa near Lake Geneva, Switzerland.
52 years after retiring from Formula 1, Sir Jack Stewart returned to the track for a symbolic moment, doing a few laps at the Bahrain International Circuit, honoring his history and at the same time engaging in a humanitarian cause of extraordinary importance.
