The former number ten of the France and Juventus team, Michel Platini, is not at all excited about the Olympic football tournament. Four days before the opening ceremony of the Paris Games, the former UEFA president explained why he should not follow Thieri Henri's team closely.
" No more than that ," he deflects when Midi-Libre asks if he's looking forward to the Olympics:

The last torchbearer at the 1992 Albertville Winter Games is no longer excited about the soccer tournament, or even the team that will be coached by Tieri Henri:
"I am not interested in the French team in the Olympics. Soccer is not an Olympic sport," he says. FIFA never wanted the best to come."
A long-time football leader, the former UEFA president says football is on the Olympic Games program because it is the sport that "fills the stadium".
" It's football that attracts more spectators, that's all", continues Michel Platini. "FIFA never wanted the best to go to the Olympics !".
The former top scorer, three times, in Serie A with Juventus says he understands that many clubs hinder their players.
" Clubs cannot pay players who are in Europe for one month and the next month for the Olympic Games ," concludes Michel Platini.
