The future of Marash Kumbulla remains open. The Albanian national team defender has returned to Roma after a loan spell at Mallorca and will join the team for the preparatory phase, while the final decision on his future is expected to be made only after talks with the new coach, Gian Piero Gasperini.
For days, the 25-year-old's name has been linked with a possible transfer to Torino, a club that continues to follow him closely. However, Kumbulla's priority is to understand if there will be space in Roma's new project, before making a decision on the continuation of his career.
In an interview with "Corriere dello Sport", the Albanian defender admitted that he is currently focused only on Roma and that he wants to talk to Gasperini first.
" I don't know yet what will happen. Now I'm at Roma and I'll see if I have the opportunity to play my cards. If not, then together with the club we will look for a solution that is good for both parties. I think I have characteristics that fit Gasperini's way of playing. Of course I like the idea of working with him, because he is one of the best coaches in Italy and Europe. But first we need to talk and understand the club's plans ."
Kumbulla stressed that he would have no problem continuing at Roma, while in case of leaving he aims for a club where he can build a long-term project. He also praised the experience gained in Spain with Espanyol and Mallorca, describing it as an important period for his development as a footballer and as a person.
Meanwhile, Torino remains one of the teams most interested in his services, but the possibility that the red and black defender will continue his career at Roma or return to La Liga is not ruled out. For now, the decision on the future will be postponed until after the preparatory phase and the meeting with coach Gasperini.
