Canadian rapper Drake has lost a whopping $355,000 (€336,000) after placing a bet on the victory of boxing legend Mike Tyson against YouTuber and boxer Jake Paul.
Drake is known for his big bets on sporting events, but often ends up losing. Followers on social networks did not spare ironic comments, blaming him for the "curse" of Tyson.
"Of course Drake got involved and here we are", "This poor Drake always spoils the situation", and "I knew there was no chance when Drake made the bet", were some of the reactions of the public. If Tyson had won, Drake would have earned over a million dollars (948,000 euros).
On the other hand, the rapper has made an even bigger bet of 455 thousand dollars (431 thousand euros) for the victory of Jon Jones against Stipe Miocic, a match that is expected to be important for the career of both.
Boxing legend Mike Tyson (58 years old) returned to the ring after 21 years, but lost to Jake Paul, the 27-year-old YouTuber who has built a successful boxing career. After eight rounds, the judges decided the victory for Paul, marking a disappointing moment for Tyson.
The bout took place at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, and was the culmination of a seven-fight event. Tyson started well in the first two rounds, but then lost his pace as Paul dominated with more punches.
Although the exact earnings from the fight will be known after processing the data from Netflix, where the fight was broadcast, it has been reported that Jake Paul is expected to earn around $40 million (€37.9 million), while Tyson will receive around $20 million (18.9 million euros).
Tyson, who has earned an estimated $430 million (€407 million) during his career, had the most lucrative bout against Lennox Lewis, earning over $103 million (€97.6 million). On the other hand, Paul has played 11 matches in his career (10 wins, one loss) and so far has collected about 15 million dollars (14.2 million euros).
Tyson's loss was not only a disappointment for his fans, but also another loss for rapper Drake, who doesn't seem to be finding luck in his bold bets.
