Ethiopia has celebrated the arrival of 2018, following its own unique 13-month calendar, which is seven years behind the Western one.
The festival known as Enkutatash marks the end of the rainy season and the beginning of spring, with the streets and markets in Addis Ababa filled with yellow adey ababa flowers, grass for coffee ceremonies and various animals for festive meals.
During New Year's Eve, the capital came alive with concerts and live music, while the day began with children singing the traditional song Abebayesh, followed by Orthodox church services.
The event, in addition to the festive atmosphere, is also a symbol of the strong cultural and religious traditions that remain rooted in the daily lives of the Ethiopian people.
