Artist Julio Iglesias has publicly responded by defending himself against allegations of alleged trafficking and sexual assault by two of his former domestic workers.
I deny having abused, coerced, or disrespected any woman.
"It is with great sadness that I respond to the accusations made by two people who previously worked in my home. I deny having abused, coerced or shown disrespect to any woman," the 82-year-old Spanish singer wrote.
The singer did not hesitate to put the two complainants in the spotlight: "I had never felt so bad, but I still have the strength to tell people the whole truth and defend my dignity in the face of such a serious complaint."
The events that occurred in 2021 and which the National Court Prosecutor's Office considers possible as "human trafficking for the purposes of forced labor and slavery", as well as "various criminal offenses against sexual freedom and reparation, such as sexual harassment and sexual assault".

According to testimony collected from a domestic worker and a physiotherapist who were employed at Julio Iglesias' residences in the Dominican Republic and the Bahamas, they claim to have suffered from behavior they describe as sexual assault, non-consensual touching and pressure to engage in intimate encounters without their consent.
The complainants describe an environment of constant control, humiliation and harassment, with long working hours and restrictions on their freedom of movement.
One of the women stated that "he used me almost every night. I felt like an object, like a slave," while both reported being slapped and physically and verbally abused, as well as having had penetration performed without their consent.
Judge Joaquim Bosch analyzes in 'Malas lenguas', the program hosted by Jesus Cintora on RTVE, the prison sentence that Julio Iglesias could face if he is found guilty of the charges against him.
"We are talking about reported criminal offenses, which carry quite high sentences compared to the entire criminal code. In the case of the crime of sexual assault, we are talking about the code in force in 2021, which ranges from six to 12 years in prison; and in the case of human trafficking, we are talking about sentences from five to eight years in prison, but there are also many aggravated variants that increase the sentences. For example, in the case of sexual assault, when a situation of superiority is exploited, when a situation of vulnerability exists or when the actions are carried out in a humiliating manner, the sentence can range from 12 to 15 years in prison, and there are also some reported criminal offenses ," the judge explains.
"The same applies to human trafficking. In general, as long as the facts are clearly proven, in a process with all the guarantees, the sentences can very well be between 10 and 20 years in prison," Bosch continues.
