Presidential election in Kosovo, LDK holds talks with Vetëvendosje: We are

Democratic League of Kosovo MP Lutfi Haziri announced that his party is holding consultations with the Vetëvendosje Movement regarding the election of the new president.

He explained that discussions are ongoing and aim to reach an agreement that would ensure the normal functioning of the institutions. Currently, the post of president is temporarily exercised by the Speaker of the Parliament, Albulena Haxhiu, after Vjosa Osmani's mandate ended on April 4.

According to Haziri, the consultation process remains active, while the leader of the LDK, Lumir Abdixhiku, is working to create opportunities for cooperation with the VV.

Prime Minister Albin Kurti has also confirmed communications with the LDK, emphasizing that the results will be made public as soon as there are concrete developments.

The parliament has until April 28 to elect a president. If a decision is not reached within this deadline, the country will go to new elections.

The last meeting between Kurti and Abdixhiku did not produce an agreement, while LDK has 15 seats in the Assembly. On the other hand, VV has announced the continuation of talks with other opposition parties.

Earlier, the majority had proposed two candidates for president, but the process remained unfinished due to the lack of a quorum. One of the names, Glauk Konjufca, has expressed readiness to withdraw his candidacy if the opposition presents a common alternative.

Meanwhile, a decree to dissolve the Assembly issued after the failure of the session for the president was reviewed by the Constitutional Court, which ruled that it does not produce legal effect and set April 28 as the deadline for electing the head of state.

The Vetëvendosje Movement, winner of the last elections, has 57 deputies in the Assembly, an insufficient number to elect the president, a process that requires at least 80 votes.
