Democratic Party MP Jorida Tabaku says that Albanian agriculture is suffering from the wrong tax policy.
Tabaku says that the increase in VAT to 20% by the Rama government has increased formality.
She states that the creation of an economic model that produces is done by regulating and promoting Albanian production through VAT.
"If we want an economic model that works and functions for the village, the VAT for the village must definitely return to previous levels. The VAT must be reduced to 6%, or to 0%, which would be the ideal case."
The increase in VAT to 20% has increased informality. But, on the other hand, it has enabled a large portion of small farmers to exit the market.
The promotion of agriculture is certainly done through grants, it is done through support schemes, but what is most important - it is done through taxes.
Creating an economic model that produces, that supports small producers, that turns them into suppliers to larger producers, can only be done by regulating and promoting Albanian production through VAT.
"Otherwise, the village will die. It will continue to decline, just as it has declined until now," says Tabaku.
