"Ushtria" newspaper, a bone of contention between Athens and Tirana
Greece continues to 'push its nose' into Albania's internal affairs.
Given that we are in the summer period and the media have nothing to deal with, a debate has erupted in Greece regarding a publication made by the newspaper 'Ushtria', the organ of the Ministry of Defense.
In the issue dated July 18, this newspaper wrote about the Berlin Congress and published a map of Albania's natural borders. But for the Greeks, such a thing is a provocation and the media has been attacking and anathematizing for 2-3 days.
" A large and ugly map of Greater Albania that includes all of Epirus, up to Preveza and Arta, the prefectures of Kostur, Florina and Grevena, some other parts of Western Macedonia and Corfu ," wrote the Greek media.
As if this were not enough, the Greek government itself reacted yesterday, announcing that it has sent a note of protest to the Albanian government.
" Greece emphasizes in every direction that such publications can only create a negative impression at a time when efforts to strengthen relations between the two countries are ongoing ," said Greek government spokesman Pavlos Marinakis , when asked by reporters.
But the scandal is that the Ministry of Defense got scared and removed the newspaper from its website. From a search on the Ministry of Defense website, it does not exist.
The scandal takes on even greater proportions as the head of the Ministry of Defense is Pirro Vengu, with a Greek passport. He is still wanted in Greece to perform military service. But it seems that now he has also been put at the service of Athens, as it is scandalous for a ministry to close down the newspaper just because some media in Athens or even the Greek government itself are upset. / Pamphlet
