Police are investigating the mysterious disappearance of an Albanian builder...
The discovery of a body inside a car burned to the ground yesterday has alarmed the Greek police. Intensive investigations have been underway for the past 24 hours, although there is much mystery surrounding the incident in Viotia.
A hunter saw a burnt car, with the charred body of a person inside, who was handcuffed. Greek media reported that it was an Albanian, but recent reports say nothing is certain.
According to media reports, police are investigating the mysterious disappearance of an Albanian builder. He disappeared about four days ago, but had never been a concern to authorities in the past, as his family was unable to understand what had happened to him.
According to information from “iEidiseis”, he is an Albanian builder who lives in Evia and on the day of his disappearance he was going to Vilia. Initially, he left Evia with an acquaintance, made a stop in an area of the island to drop off his relative and then continued on his way alone in his car. The builder’s vehicle was found abandoned by the police.
A family member will provide DNA to authorities to determine if the missing man is the man found charred in Viotia.
The burnt-out vehicle was found by chance yesterday by a hunter. Police sources report that it was stolen from the Glyfada area last May and had forged license plates.
The Homicide Department has taken over the case, which is seriously considering the possibility that this horrific discovery is linked to the murder of 42-year-old businessman Yannis Lalas, an event which occurred last Saturday evening in Eptalofos.
As a police officer told ERT, the two cases appear to coincide in time, while also showing common characteristics in the perpetrators' modus operandi. In both cases, stolen vehicles from Attica were used, on which forged license plates were placed, which were then burned to cover their tracks.
Homicide police officers are focusing their investigation on a group of 14 people who have disappeared from Attica in the last five days, with the aim of identifying the charred body and finding those responsible for the violent murder.
As for the murder of the businessman, the 42-year-old had gone with a woman and two other couples to a hotel near Arachova. The perpetrators were monitoring the victim's movements and when he went out onto the hotel balcony, they opened fire on him with Kalashnikovs. The 42-year-old died instantly.
A burnt-out car was found nearby, which police believe was used by the perpetrators.
The murder of the 42-year-old is attributed, according to information, to a settling of scores, as the victim is suspected of having joined the Russian-speaking criminal group that runs the cigarette smuggling sector, while in the past he had clashed with a leading member of the "Greek Mafia".
Meanwhile, last May, there was another assassination attempt against the victim outside a gas station he owned in Ano Liosia, but he escaped thanks to the armored car. /Pamphlet
