An unexpected development within the “Albania Becomes Initiative” coalition could prevent Adriatik Lapaj from entering parliament in September. The coalition had built a strategy where the closed list for Tirana contained 12 fictitious candidates, who had resigned in order for the mandate to pass to the most voted candidate from the open list – in this case, Lapaj himself.
Currently, the only mandate won by NSHB in the Tirana district belongs to Ana Dajko. But, to pass it to Lapaj, it is necessary that she and the other 11 names on the list withdraw. This scheme has been put in jeopardy by Zeqir Kordhoni, ranked ninth on the list, who has expressed reluctance to give up the mandate.
On May 11, after the elections, the NSHB submitted to the CEC the resignations of all candidates on the closed list for Tirana, including Zeqir Kordon, a construction worker and disabled person who is treated with KEMP, according to his CV.
According to " Shqiptarja.com ", Kordhoni is no longer convinced about the resignation and has addressed the Central Election Commission with a handwritten letter, calling himself a "deputy" and requesting a copy of the signed resignation.
"Adriatiku is bringing us a lot of trouble, sometimes I will go in and sometimes I will not. But I am not convinced what I will do. Adriatiku needs to sit down face to face with me and we can clarify this story. I worked 72 hours with him without going home and I am also disabled," he said in a statement for Report TV.
Asked if he signed his resignation on May 11, he said:
"I signed a lot of things at that time and I'm not sure if I signed the resignation."
He admits that he is one of the names proposed by the Nisma Thurje Party. His resignation is in the form of a simple form, signed without the presence of a notary or official authority.
Meanwhile, sources close to the CEC have announced that regardless of previously filed declarations or resignations, every candidate has the right to change their mind and seek the mandate until the moment Celibashi officially announces the winning list.
For Tirana, the distribution of mandates is still pending, as the DP has filed a complaint with the Electoral College. In this situation, Adriatik Lapaj must ensure that Kordhoni and the other 11 candidates on the closed list do not withdraw from the decision to resign, until the mandate is certified in his name.
