The Ukrainian president said he and Trump discussed Patriot systems, air defense, and accelerating diplomatic efforts for peace.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky described his conversation with US President Donald Trump at the White House as a "good meeting", thanking the United States for its support for Ukraine.
"We are fighting together to protect the lives of Ukrainians and achieve peace," Zelensky said after the meeting in the Oval Office. He added that he expressed his condolences to Trump on the passing of Senator Lindsey Graham, whom he called "a true friend of Ukraine."
According to Zelensky, during the conversation, licenses for the production of interceptors for Patriot air defense systems were also discussed, as well as the need to intensify the diplomatic process.
"We also talked about diplomacy. It is important to accelerate the diplomatic process. Our teams will agree on the details of future communications. I am grateful to the United States for their strong support," he said.
The meeting between Trump and Zelensky lasted a little over an hour and took place behind closed doors at the White House, US media reported.
Zelensky arrived at the presidential complex at around 9:40 a.m. local time, through a side entrance in the West Wing, and left at 10:41 a.m. According to NBC News, just a few minutes later, at 10:56 a.m., Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu arrived at the White House for his meeting with President Trump.
Before arriving in Washington, Zelensky had announced on the X network that he would hold meetings with Trump, his team, and American officials who support Ukraine's defense.
"Our number one priority is defense against ballistic missiles and strategic cooperation with America. We must move closer to peace," the Ukrainian president wrote.
