The first two matches of today's Champions League have ended. At "San Mames", Arsenal won 0-2 against Athletic Bilbao. The home team was missing their main star, Nico Williams, who was injured.
The Londoners started the match with the "heavy artillery", but sensational summer purchases like Giokeres and Eze were not on their best day.
Arsenal's goal came from the bench. Newcomer Gabriel Martinelli opened the scoring in the 72nd minute, after an assist from Leandro Troshard, who also came on as a second-half substitute.
After a lost ball by the home team, the Londoners' quick action begins, Troshard passes acrobatically to Martinelli, the Brazilian did everything beautifully himself. He passed the two opposing defenders and finally "shook" the net.
In the 87th minute, it was Martinelli-Troshard's combination again and this time it was the Belgian's turn to send the ball into the net. Arsenal started this Champions League season with a victory, the final score 0-2.
At the Philips Stadium, PSV were defeated 1-3 by Royal Union Saint-Gilloise. The Belgian champions initially took the lead thanks to a penalty converted into a goal by Promis David in the 9th minute, after a clear foul inside the area.
In the 38th minute, the Belgians scored their second goal through Ait El Hajj, who, after recovering a lost ball from the home team in midfield, took it alone and sent it into the net. In the second half, the Belgians tripled the score with Kevin McAllister in the 80th minute. Alexis McAllister's brother scored after a ball he received from a corner kick. The Dutch scored the consolation goal at the end of regular time with Ruben van Bommel.
