The credit goes to the "Sinner effect", but not only to it. Driven by the great successes of Italian tennis players, who have rewritten history by winning 3 Davis Cups in a row and a total of five Grand Slam titles, tennis has managed to surpass football for the first time from a financial point of view.
According to "Il Sole 24 Ore", in 2025 the Italian Tennis and Padel Federation (FITP) will register the highest production value among all national sports federations, over 230 million euros, leaving behind even the Italian Football Federation (FIGC). The Italian Football Federation, also affected by the lack of a major international competition during the year that just ended, is expected to stop at just over 200 million euros in turnover.
The overtaking was foreseeable in 2024, the year in which the European Football Championships were held, but it was fully realized in 2025. For 2026, which has started with four Italians among the 24 best in the world and in which FITP predicts to exceed 250 million euros in revenue, qualification for the World Cup in North America will be decisive for Italian football. Meanwhile, this overtaking, achieved in just twelve months, marks a symbolic and fundamental change in the balance of Italian sport.
