The president of the Albanian Basketball Federation, Avni Ponari, was the special guest of the first show for this year "Ora Sport" on "Ora News", where in an interview he described the situation in which Albanian basketball is today.
-Mr. Ponari, where does the balance of basketball lean in the year we left behind?
The year 2024 was a successful year, because with the 5 national teams we were awarded prizes, showing that basketball is on a good path.
And these national teams that are the age teams managed to get all of them from a place of honor in the finals that we had in the European. This was also confirmed by the FIBA President himself.
On the other hand, the girls' national team also managed to take second place, which shows the right vision by really getting what they deserved in the tournament that took place in Pristina.
So, these are indicators that there is a positive movement regarding the sport of basketball.
But other sports are not like football, so they need more attention from the media and that's the reason I'm here today.
-To whom do you attribute these successes?
Of course, success is the player's, as he is the stimulus. To be successful in sports, you must have three elements: people, terrain and finances.
Basketball teams until the age of 20 have a lot of talent, after this age their perspective and financial future ends and so they decide to leave the sport for a job that provides them with income. And this situation is also in Europe.
We have many talents who play in other national teams today, which shows that we must all find the way together, not only the National Basketball Team.
