Ervin Salianji has so far won the challenge with Sali Berisha, but this is not enough. Salianji today has, and it can be said with clear data, more supporters than Sali Berisha.
On the other hand, Salianji, learning from the 2022 experience, will not deal with the issue of the seal, as he did. He is actually doing well, as this brings political chaos and no real solution within the opposition.
The solution to Salijanj was given by Sali Berisha himself in 2023, when he ran in 6 municipalities of the country in the partial elections with a joint coalition with Ilir Meta's LSI. The LSI logo was used as a pragmatic solution, but in essence Sali Berisha clashed with the DP that had challenged him. In Shkodra, only thanks to the LSI alliance did he succeed, while in the other municipalities he did not. But he had the advantage again only thanks to the LSI.
Today, Ervin Salijani, in a simple confrontation, can achieve even more strongly what Sali Berisha did in 2023. But this does not suit either Ervin Salijani or the opposition. However, if this new opposition, which Sali Berisha has expelled from the DP, seeks to maintain the status quo, it cannot remain without entering the challenge of the local elections.
Which is in reality a very difficult challenge, but on the other hand an epochal opportunity. But precisely in this chaos, where selfishness, anger and envy prevail over a general idea, that common point can be found, where the miracle of "initial democracy" can set milestones that can last for years.
In this chaos, Ervin Salianji can overthrow the mayor's office, as he has the luxury of not having it in the negotiations for the selection of candidates for mayor in particular, but also of councilors, in a way that has never been done in Albania, or at least not for a long time. He can transform it into a real competition, using and monitoring clear democratic rules.
Only then will it manage to get real attention without having to attract mainstream television media, which have never managed to change or influence the situation.
A political process to select candidates can become not just a political phenomenon of the political season, but even more than that. It can be the act of overcoming a “tradition” that can overthrow the status quo, and in reality this is the real political revolution. That breaks and nullifies the 2008 agreement, bringing the need to return the majoritarian to the constitution. But there is not much time, either now, or the status quo remains in force!
