Dark lessons from Epstein's world

Dark lessons from Epstein's world

Beyond the sex scandals and the horror of abuse, this story exposes a social "Ponzi Scheme" that connects the most powerful names in the world. From high-ranking politicians to technology giants, the case raises chilling questions about human morality when it is freed from any legal, financial or social constraints...

As journalists and curious onlookers sift through the millions of files that the United States government has decided to release - after carefully selecting and partially censoring them, paying far more attention to Donald Trump's image than to the identities, faces and even personal data of the victims - the case of financier Jeffrey Epstein is becoming both clearer and more murky, unraveling into ramifications, streams and rivulets, each more disturbing than the last.

In the foreground is, of course, the horror, which concerns the many girls, even minors, used by Epstein to satisfy his desires and those of his many and prominent friends.

That everyone was fully aware, no matter what they say now, that they were dealing with a real pedophile and sexual predator, already identified as such by the justice system. And yet he managed, thanks to a scandalous and favorable agreement, to receive a ridiculous sentence.

It will likely take time to accurately gauge the depth of this abyss and the exact extent of the horrors committed against those girls, if not children, by Epstein and his regular visitors. We will see who and how many they were (everyone now of course says they knew nothing, including those who advised him in emails on how to clean up his image).

Then there is the matter of the international espionage intrigue, ranging from the Mossad (particularly Epstein's close ties to former Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Barak) to Vladimir Putin's Russia, which apparently had more agents in the financier's homes than in Moscow's famous Lux Hotel in the 1930s.

Related to this, there is also the issue that affects the domestic politics of several Western countries, starting with the United States, given the very close relationship of Trump and his entire court with Epstein.

Suffice it to say, to borrow a joke from Twitter, that the famous documentary film "Melania" produced by Amazon is actually a documentary about an Epstein daughter who married Epstein's best friend, directed by one of his clients.

The financier's documents reveal what the British Financial Times has rightly defined as a "Social Ponzi Scheme", that is, a chain of relationships that went from Bill and Hillary Clinton to Steve Bannon, from Noam Chomsky to Steven Pinker, passing through Bill Gates, Woody Allen, English and Norwegian royalty, prime ministers and ambassadors from half the world.

There is still much to learn about the political consequences, starting with the role of Trump and the leaders of the Trumpian movement, who made a lot of money talking about the "pedo-Satanic" conspiracies of the Democratic elite, while now being revealed as regular visitors to Epstein and very active with him in the Silicon Valley-White House-Russia triangle.

However, there is a more general aspect here that strikes me. This event is a terrible experiment in human nature. Freed from all constraints and needs, what does a man want who already has everything?

Money, sex, power, in a system that guarantees him thousands of ways to infinitely increase his resources and that allows him to violate social, fiscal, and penal norms without anyone daring to denounce him?

The answer is simple: even more money, new ways to avoid taxes, and a secluded place with a skilled middleman to do, away from the eyes of the world, what is still forbidden even for him.

This is the best evidence of the need to put a stop to the unlimited enrichment of financial and technology giants. The consequences are clearly visible in the photo of Epstein with Mark Zuckerberg and Elon Musk from 2015, a year before Trump's victory.
