Protest begins in front of the Parliament, citizens attempt to remove the metal fence

As announced days ago, this Thursday's protest is taking place in parallel with the plenary session in the Parliament. The gathering of citizens has started in the early hours of the morning at "Skënderbej" Square, from where they will march towards the Parliament building. The rally coincides with the start of parliamentary proceedings at 10:00, which has also brought about a broad mobilization of law enforcement structures.

The first incidents between some citizens and security forces were also recorded in front of the Parliament.

Some protesters have approached the metal fence set up by the State Police and the video shows the moment when citizens attempt to push and remove the metal fence to penetrate towards the Parliament building, while Police officers have immediately intervened to block the passage and keep the security perimeter under control.

To guarantee the smooth running of the protest, the State Police has increased security measures by deploying around 500 police officers on the ground.

Meanwhile, protesters chant in front of the Parliament: "You do not represent us!" They also continue with well-known protest chants such as "Your end has come," "Crime Parliament," and "Down with the government."

The Albanian Parliament meets today, at 10:00, where the focus of the session will be the reports and approval of draft resolutions on the activities of 7 independent institutions for the year 2025.

The deputies will review the reports of the High Judicial Council, the High Prosecutorial Council, the High State Audit Office, the General Prosecutor's Office, the Special Structure against Corruption and Organized Crime (SPAK), the Ombudsman, and the High Inspector of Justice.

The agenda also includes an interpellation and two question-and-answer sessions with the Minister of Infrastructure and Energy, Enea Karakaçi, requested by opposition MPs.

The Assembly will also review two government normative acts, on changes to the 2026 budget and on the partial financing of a cultural-tourism activity of international proportions.

MPs are also expected to vote on a series of draft laws related to the Civil Code, the law on tourism, the State Police, the State Attorney's Office, the Maritime Code, industrial property, accounting, as well as legislation on European companies and economic groups.

At the end of the session, votes are scheduled for the appointment of the chairman and three members of the Public Procurement Commission, as well as discussions on issues outside the agenda.

We await to see if there will be debates, as happens in almost every parliamentary session, between the opposition and the majority.
