Dembacaj was convicted after being criminally accused by her ex-husband Aleksandër Varfaj, after he had taken their daughter out of the country by falsifying the power of attorney. The power of attorney, which should have been signed by the girl's father, was forged, so the daughter went out of the country without her father's knowledge.
