Tensions were noted this morning in front of the Albanian Parliament, where a group of citizens gathered in protest at the same time as the plenary session was taking place.
During the rally, protesters threw eggs at the vehicles of several officials who were entering the Parliament premises. Among them were the car of the Minister of Education, Mirela Kumbaro, and that of the political leader of the Vlora region, Bledar Çuçi. Other vehicles transporting MPs to Parliament were also thrown with eggs.
Meanwhile, a majority MP was seen walking towards the Parliament building when protesters threw several eggs at him. In an attempt to avoid the "barrel" of eggs, he quickened his steps and then ran towards the Parliament entrance.
According to the protesters, the rally was announced as peaceful, however the situation became tense when the majority representatives arrived. Some ministers and MPs chose to enter the Parliament building through alternative entrances, to avoid confrontation with the protesters.
The protest began at around 10:30 a.m. During it, chants and slogans against the government and institutions were heard, including: "Criminal Parliament," "Rama resigns," and "You do not represent us," while participants expressed their dissatisfaction with the political class and demanded political change.
An increased number of police forces were deployed in the area around the Parliament to guarantee order and security during the protest and plenary session.
