The head of the Albanian Supreme Audit Office, Arben Shehu, participated in the funeral ceremony of the renowned journalist Enrik Mehmeti, who was accompanied today to his final resting place amidst the pain of family, friends, colleagues and citizens.
In his speech, Arben Shehu expressed respect for journalists who, even in a difficult moment such as the loss of a colleague and friend, continue to practice their profession with devotion and seriousness.
He described the passing of Enrik Mehmeti as a double loss, first for his family and then for the city of Vlora, describing him as a symbol of work, sacrifice, dedication and professionalism in journalism.
"I want to express my great respect for you that even though you lost your friend and colleague, you are continuing your work with devotion and seriousness.
Enriku was a huge loss for his family, but it is a double loss for Vlora.
First and foremost, it was the loss of a person who was a master of work and sacrifice, a symbol of dedication throughout these few years of life, but also a symbol of the special work of a born journalist, a respected man.
Since taking office as head of the SAI, I have had the good fortune to work alongside him, and allow me to express my great sorrow for the loss of a man who was at a high level in all areas.
We all lost a man who had the greatest commitment, the one that each of us should have, the commitment to stand by each other, to be united.
"During these years, he tried to give the great message that each of us must implement: Let's support each other, life is too short! We must be valuable to ourselves and our country!", declared the head of the HSE to the media.
Earlier, tributes were held in honor of the journalist at the "Petro Marko" Theater in Vlora, where dozens of citizens, colleagues, family members, friends and representatives of institutions paid their last respects.
Journalist Enrik Mehmeti lost his life at the age of 40 after a tragic motorcycle accident in the Porto-Nova area, near Vlora, leaving behind his wife, two children and a precious legacy in journalism.
During his career, he reported from Vlora on the most important events, chronicles, social developments and tourism, standing out for his professionalism and dedication, qualities that earned him the respect of his colleagues and the trust of the public.
His passion for journalism accompanied him since childhood. In 1997, when he was only 11 years old, he joined the "Alba" missionary camp in the role of translator, an experience that, according to his accounts, influenced his choice of the profession of journalist.
Although he lived between Albania and the United States for years, Mehmeti never separated from Vlora and his professional commitment. The journalist continued to report on developments in his hometown, remaining a well-known and trusted voice for the public.
